Urban Solid Waste Collection
In the West every citizen generates an annual average of 115 kg of household waste. To minimize environmentl impact, there is a whole system for recovery, treatment and recycling to avoid deposition in landfills. The first step is the urban solid waste colledtion. In most developed countries is organized through containers of paper / cardboard, packaging, glass, organic and rest.
The urban solid wase collection from packaging container is transported to treatment plants (ecoparks), where the waste is classified according to its material composition.
The selection processes in these plants are complex through the use of specialized technology based on the identification of materials: trommels, elctromagnets and eddy current devices, ballistic separators and infrared optoelectronic identifiers. The results are different fractions according to the composition of material: steel, aluminium, tetra, pet, hdpe, ldpe, mixed, …
The waste fraction called “mixed plastics” is transported to a recycling plant specialized in producing products from this fraction, the most difficult to recycle due to its heterogeneity. The raw material contains 80% of polyolefins (HDPE, LDPE, PP) and otehr types of plastics sucha as pet, ps, eps, pc, etc,… and remains of cardboard, paper and aluminium.
